First Meeting With My Vocabulary Guru

In my first post, I promised to be authentic about the successes and challenges of my process in implementing Language Storytime as a method for learning and teaching a new language.  And while I'd carefully planned the method based on previous success as a teacher using this method, when I put myself in the position of learner of a new language, that first challenge was not long in coming...  The Plan: In preparation for reading the first story to my son in Farsi, I set out to collect the vocabulary words listed on the Dictionary Page for Going to Sleep on the Farm  by meeting with my "Vocabulary Guru" - my husband.  We sat down for about 15 minutes total and covered vocabulary for two books.  A good start - I proved that the prep does not take much time at all!   The Challenge: As we got started discussing vocabulary, we realized anew that language is multifaceted.  My wonderfully patient husband was happy to translate the individual words I asked for, but we quickly go

The Concept

What if I told you that you could use picture books written in ANY language to teach your child ANY language you want whether you are fluent in that language or just starting out?  And you can do this while creating meaningful, memorable and fun! storytime experiences? Would you believe me?   Would you believe that YOU can do it too? That's the premise behind Language Storytime.  I believe it works... that it's truly possible... to learn a new language in the low stress setting of storytime.   And to prove it, I 'm going to make myself the first student of my Strategic Language Method.  I'm going to teach myself Farsi through the exact steps detailed in the Language Storytime packages.  I'll write about the challenges and successes, and I promise not to keep it always pretty - because while there will be moments of excitement and pride, there will also be days when I'm tired and things don't go as planned.   Pease join me on this journey and teach your child
